Sometimes I Forget

June 28, 2007

That my life style is an abomination and that God hates me and wants me to die.

But when I forget, I know where to go to be reminded.

You, too, can contribute to Conservapedia. Praise Jesus!

Apology

June 26, 2007

To my knowledge, nothing I write has ever appeared in print. And I have never received recompense for any of my musings. In that regard, I am like most who blog and publish online.

I also don’t track visitor stats on my sites or my blogs. Because I can be vain and narcissistic at times, I don’t need further prods to folly. I am wary of renown because I feel it may become a substitute for what really matters: the friendship and love of those close to me.

If, at times, I seem distant, it’s because I wish to maintain my sanity. Being from New York, I find it hard to talk to people I don’t know. It’s just not something I did growing up in the Big Apple. I imagine I’ll get over it. It just may take some time.

Synchronicity

June 25, 2007

With the caveat that it is a work in progress, I have posted the Synchronicity series at ourgoddess.org. Considering the subject matter, it seems more suited to that site than to loverofwords.com.

I once heard that the whole of the blogosphere is a first draft. It’s taken me sometime to appreciate the truth of that observation.

The Internet is (related to / distinct from) the Noosphere.

In the Garden

June 22, 2007

In time for Seattle Gay Pride, I have posted In the Garden on my homepage.

I’m ambivalent about Gay Pride: at times it seems more a celebration of narcicissm than a celebration of social progress. It’s not like homos need an excuse to consume alcohol.

Oh, and it seems enough people think that Synchronicity is more than an illusion in my deluded mind. But what happens next? I have no idea.

Loving Kindness

June 18, 2007

Compassion is the goal toward which spirituality points.

I am reviewing Buddhism, a non-theistic religion, in the hope of quieting my aggression, negativity, and antagonism: here is Buddha’s sutra on the cultivation of loving kindness.

Even as a mother protects with her life
Her child, her only child,
So with a boundless heart
Should one cherish all living beings:
Radiating kindness over the entire world
Spreading upwards to the skies,
And downwards to the depths;

I yet have much to learn.

Allah Loves Water Sports

June 12, 2007

After all, drinking the urine of Muhammad is now considered a blessing in Islam.

Religious tolerance be damned: that fatwa is just plain stupid. Especially since the Prophet hasn’t been around to take a leak for over a thousand years.

I wonder if the Supreme Intelligence of the Universe finds the foolishness of his sycophantic mouthpieces amusing.

I certainly do.

Creationism is equivalent to Geocentrism

June 11, 2007

Funny poll: more Republicans than Democrats doubt evolution.

I would love to see a poll of how many people believe in the Geocentric model of the universe. I wouldn’t be surprised to find a correlation between those who believe the Sun revolves around the Earth and those who believe Creationism.

Not only is the Creation Museum an affront to rationality, it is an abuse of the First Amendment.

Free speech should not mean lying is legal. After all, Holocaust denial is illegal in Germany.

Jesus as Super Hero

June 10, 2007

Reading the Infancy Gospel of Thomas, I am struck by how the stories of Jesus’ youth—and the dread miracles he performed—sound like the actions of a comic book hero.

Maybe the young Christ wore a cape with a cross emblazoned upon it.

Hypothetically Speaking

June 9, 2007

I compiled the Hypothetically Speaking series and posted it on my website.

I am not the only one to speculate that the presidency of George W. Bush will never end. At CommonDreams.org, David Green writes:

There is a third condition that is very much required in order for a progressive renaissance to occur. It is an obvious one, but given the Constitution shredding we’ve all lived through these last six years, it must nevertheless be overtly articulated: Bush and Cheney must actually leave office on January 20, 2009. I still have concerns about this, though fewer than I did a few years back. It worries me, though, that we’ve taught these reprobates an unfortunate lesson – namely, that you can steal elections, trash the Bill of Rights, blow off Congress, manufacture a war, and steal the national crown jewels – all without much more consequence than a bit of photo-op grumbling by an anemic opposition party, the occasional off-script question from an otherwise completely obsequious press, and the latent hostility of a powerless public. After all that, would it be so much to fake another international crisis and suspend elections? If you can kill habeas corpus after nearly a millennium of it being woven deep into the fabric of Western cultural tradition, could you not readily spike an election or two under conditions of ‘national emergency’? And let us not be under any illusions about the massive incentives that exist for them to stay in office, not least of which is to avoid losing the ability to block investigations of their crimes once they’re out of power. The Bush junta has plenty of good reasons not to go when their (stolen) term expires. And then, of course, there is the matter of that mysterious underground bunker Cheney has been building, and the giant prison complexes recently constructed for as-yet unspecified purposes…(Source)

P & Q & R = Moron

June 8, 2007

P: The Earth revolves around the Sun.
Q: The Sun revolves around the Earth.
R: The Earth revolves around the Sun and the Sun revolves around the Earth.

Only a moron would assent to R. But that is the sort of reasoning that seems reasonable to most Americans:

Asked whether human life is a result of God’s creation or evolution over millions of years, a majority of Americans said both are probable explanations, a poll suggested on Friday. (Source)

The inescapable logical conclusion? Most Americans are morons.
